Craftateria Vendor Call 2011

CRAFTATERIA (December 17, 2011@ the Gate, Lethbridge, AB)

We are looking for fantastic vendors!

The organizers for the Craftateria fair are always on the lookout for exciting, and/or first time vendors. We fight to keep the table fee is reasonable ($50 ) and keep the application simple (3images + a small statement) . Since, not everything in life needs to be fussy....(we hate fussiness probably as much as you hate fussiness)

Primarily, the Craftateria fair is interested in promoting craft diversity, so we are selective with the amount and types of items included. For example, it would be a boring fair if all the vendors only sold necklaces and toques, not there is anything wrong with necklaces and toques!....but you know how the old saying goes “too much of a good thing....”

So....if you make stuff and particularly if you make offbeat stuff...We want you!

HOW TO APPLY?

-INCLUDE the following
1) at least 3 images of your work
and
2) a brief description of what you make and what you plan to sell.

-SEND TO craftateria@gmail.com

*If you are selected you will be contacted in Mid-November with more information on table fees, ect.

Third Stop(s): International Yarn Bombing Day Virtual Tour: Lethbridge Style!

Scenic Drive Dog Park:

Galt Gardens:
perfect for weaving!

rainbows in honor of the pride weekend!
These last two pieces in Galt Gardens were, sadly torn down the very next day.  It makes you wonder if hired security actually have real work to do, or if they are just there to hassle homeless people, intimidate people, and tear down creative interventions.

This cute little video was also made while the weaving piece was being done.  Atleast we have the technology to preserve our art!

We still have a few more pieces to share, so stay tuned for the next post!  Or check out the other Lethbridge yarn bombs here.
Thanks for stopping by!

First Stop: International Yarn Bombing Day Virtual Tour: Lethbridge Style!

As you may or may not know, June 11th was International Yarn Bombing Day (IYBD)!

As part of the 1st Annual Lethbridge Craft Jamboree, the craftaterians intentionally included this event in this week's events (and if you haven't had a chance to see what all is happening, check this out.)  We're asking anyone in the Lethbridge area who is participating in IYBD to send us your pictures and videos and we'll add them to our virtual tour (you will of course, remain anonymous!)  Email us

Here's a sneak peek at some yarn-bombing action that happened in downtown Lethbridge recently.  The location of this first video is the Chinese National League Building in Lethbridge's Chinatown.  Despite being designated a historic building AND a wall recently collapsing, a chain-link fence has surrounded the building for the last couple months and it appears very little is happening to stabilize the building.  With the recent onslaught of heavy rain, one has to wonder how much more damage is currently being done by letting it sit vacant.

Don't forget, it's Knit in Public Week!  We'll be celebrating on tuesday with a yarn picnic.  Watch for more posts on the IYBD Lethbridge Virtual Tour soon!

A little bit more on Etsy's Global Craft Party:
We envision Craft Party to be a celebration of the wide array of making and an expression of the diversity in your local community. What do you love to make? What are your favorite community organizations and space? How can you band together to craft a positive change in your town?
No matter where you live or what you love to make, you are invited to participate. Musicians, painters, sculptors, photographers, farmers, hackers, gardeners, designers, jewelers, bookbinders, printmakers, teachers, makers and doers of all stripes, as well as art enthusiasts, curators, vintage lovers and supporters of the independently made, we're calling on you! We challenge you to meet your neighbors and come together to make something surprising.
Last year, over 5,000 people participated in over 500 meetups from Dallas to Romania, and this year our goal is for over 15,000 people to share in the spirit of Craft Party
.
And of course, Myrtle, our official Lethbridge Craft Jamboree spokes-octopus, officially endorses this event!
